Chelsea considers a surprise bid for Manchester United's Jadon Sancho as they look to offload players and reshape their squad before the transfer window closes.
Chelsea are thinking about making a move to sign Manchester United’s winger, Jadon Sancho. The 24-year-old player has been the subject of transfer talks this summer, especially after he traveled with the Manchester United squad to their game against Brighton but wasn’t chosen to play.
There has been a lot of speculation about Sancho’s future at Manchester United, even though the club’s manager, Erik ten Hag, tried to settle their previous disagreements. These issues led to Sancho being sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund last season. Although he played for a few minutes in the Community Shield against Manchester City, he hasn’t appeared in a Premier League match yet this season.
Sky Sports reports that Chelsea is seriously thinking about making a surprising offer for Sancho. However, they will have to compete with Juventus, who also want to sign him. It’s believed that Chelsea might offer one of their players to Manchester United in exchange, as they need to reduce the number of players in their squad before the transfer window closes.
Juventus, on the other hand, is interested in taking Sancho on loan, but Manchester United would prefer to sell him permanently, though they haven’t completely ruled out a loan. Sancho, who joined Manchester United in 2021 for £73 million, has two years left on his contract. The club hopes to recover about half of what they paid for him.
If Chelsea wants to sign Sancho, they may need to get rid of up to six players first to make the deal possible. The club is also still looking to sign a new striker this summer. Raheem Sterling, who is currently out of favor at Chelsea, could be included in a possible swap deal for Sancho.
Chelsea’s coach, Enzo Maresca, has already excluded Sterling and Ben Chilwell from the main squad as he tries to manage the large number of players. In a recent press conference, Maresca said: “Sterling and Chilwell are training separately. We have a big squad, and it’s impossible to give everyone playing time. If they want more minutes, it’s better for them to leave. If they stay, they are still Chelsea players with a contract.”
Despite these issues, Chelsea won their first Premier League match of the season with a big 6-2 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. Noni Madueke stood out by scoring three goals in the second half, while Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, and Joao Felix also scored to secure the win for Chelsea.
