Arsenal Intensify Efforts to Sign £25m Player Alongside Mikel Merino Before Deadline Day

Arsenal continued their strong start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, thanks to goals from Leandro Trossard and Thomas Partey. Despite being under pressure for much of the match, the Gunners secured all three points at Villa Park, a venue where they suffered a defeat last season.

After the game, Mikel Arteta hinted that Arsenal could still make another signing before the transfer window closes on August 30th. It has now emerged that the club is actively pursuing a goalkeeper from Europe.

Arsenal Targeting Joan Garcia

Arsenal has been linked with Joan Garcia throughout the summer transfer window as they seek a backup goalkeeper, particularly with Aaron Ramsdale in talks to join Wolves. According to Spanish outlet AS, the Gunners are intensifying their efforts to sign Espanyol’s Garcia. The 23-year-old had an impressive breakout season in LaLiga2 last year and has drawn interest from several top clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur. Garcia’s release clause is reportedly around £35 million.

Despite the focus on Garcia, some believe Arsenal should prioritize signing an attacker, especially given the uncertainty surrounding Gabriel Jesus’ injury. With Kai Havertz being the only other recognized striker in the squad, reinforcements in the forward line seem crucial.

One potential target could be Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres, a move that may require Arsenal to dig deep financially. With just days remaining in the transfer window, the Gunners face a critical period to finalize their squad for the season ahead.
