Jim Ratcliffe has prepared an initial offer of €45 million (£37.8 million) for Zubimendi, according to the Catalan newspaper Nacional.


Zubimendi has long been linked with Arsenal, with many believing he would be the perfect replacement for Thomas Partey. Mikel Arteta admires Zubimendi, but the player has previously chosen to remain in Spain to support his boyhood club, Real Sociedad. However, with Manchester United’s interest, Zubimendi might now consider a move abroad.


Manchester United are looking to add a midfielder this summer due to the uncertain futures of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Sofyan Amrabat, whose performances during the 2023-24 campaign may lead to their departures. Zubimendi’s versatility makes him an ideal asset for United, capable of playing multiple roles, including as a defensive midfielder and a deep-lying playmaker.


Zubimendi, currently representing Spain at the European Championships, would bring much-needed stability to Manchester United’s midfield. Any move will likely have to wait until after the tournament. The 25-year-old possesses the quality to excel at United and could form a formidable partnership with Mainoo. Given his release clause, United should proceed with the signing to enhance the depth and quality of their midfield.
